Installer Spotlight: CTR Coatings and OBIC Help Conover, NC Upgrade Its Aeration Basins

Installer Spotlight: CTR Coatings and OBIC Help Conover, NC Upgrade Its Aeration Basins When the City of Conover, North Carolina, decided to overhaul its aging wastewater treatment infrastructure, they knew they needed a reliable partner with proven solutions. They found that partner in CTR Coatings—an OBIC-certified installer with a service territory of Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina—who specializes in the maintenance and rehabilitation of municipal and industrial water and wastewater systems. The project involved rehabilitating four large aeration basins at the city's treatment plant, each measuring 110 feet long, 26 feet wide, and 17.5 feet deep. Over time, the concrete had degraded significantly, with aggregate exposed and surfaces weakened from constant wear and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas exposure. To stay ahead of further deterioration, Conover Public Works committed to a full restoration. CTR Coatings secured the job by demonstrating their experience and capabilities directly to

Installer Spotlight: Advanced Lining Delivers Long-Term Protection for New Headworks Structure

Installer Spotlight: Advanced Lining Delivers Long-term Protection for New Headworks Structure When the City of Preston, Idaho, needed to protect a major investment in their new headworks structure, they turned to Advanced Lining—an OBIC-certified installer with a service territory of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah—known for quality workmanship and expertise. The project involved lining almost 9,000 square feet of concrete surfaces, including channels, a vortex grinder, a grit chamber, a lift station, and five manholes. "This wasn't a small project by any means," said Nathan Churan, Advanced Lining’s General Manager. "It was an expansion of their existing setup, and the city was proactive about preventing corrosion before the structures went into service." Advanced Lining used the OBIC Armor Multi-Layer System that consists of OBIC 1306 closed-cell foam sandwiched between two layers of OBIC 1000. To ensure optimal results, the team completed extensive surface preparation, sandblasting the entire

Installer Spotlight: Midwest Infrastructure Coatings Delivers Big Results for a Small Town

Installer Spotlight: Midwest Infrastructure Coatings Delivers Big Results for a Small Town When the City of Wheatland, Missouri, needed to take action against severe inflow and infiltration (I&I) problems, they turned to Midwest Infrastructure Coatings—an OBIC-certified installer with a service territory spanning Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and northeast Texas—known for delivering high-quality work with precision and efficiency. Facing aging infrastructure and limited funds, Wheatland’s leaders sought a way to repair their wastewater system faster than their budget would normally allow. Thanks to federal ARPA funding, the city was able to move forward with an aggressive plan: rehabilitating nearly their entire manhole system in one coordinated effort. Over the course of four months in 2024, MIC lined 260 manholes—all but two in the entire city—and rehabilitated the main lift station, which measured six feet in diameter and extended 20 feet deep. In total, the project included approximately 1,100

Installer Spotlight: The Benefits of Polyurea Coatings for Hydroelectric Power

Installer Spotlight: The Benefits of Polyurea Coatings for Hydroelectric Power At OBIC, we love to hear about the different types of applications our certified installers use our products on. One such project was recently completed by Advanced Rehabilitation Technology (ART) at the historic Auglaize River Dam in Defiance, Ohio.Over 100 years old, this hydroelectric power generator still contributes to the local area's energy usage. When concrete began deteriorating on its exterior walls, the dam's operators needed a solution that would endure and maintain the dam's operational integrity. In 2023, ART was called in to help address these issues on one half of the dam wall using OBIC products. After those successful repairs, ART returned in 2024 to complete the remaining sections on the other side of the wall. One section in need of repair was approximately 10' x 10' in size, one was approximately 4' x 15', and the

OBIC Products Help to Rehabilitate Aging Infrastructure in Germany

OBIC Products Help to Rehabilitate Aging Infrastructure in Germany OBIC has been steadily growing its presence in the European market, particularly in Germany, where the need to restore aging infrastructure presents both challenges and opportunities. A recent project in Stassfurt, a historic salt mining town 2 hours southwest of Berlin, highlights OBIC's capabilities and its commitment to delivering innovative solutions anywhere in the world. The project in Stassfurt involved a steel tank used to store saturated saltwater, a critical component in the salt mining process. As metal and salt notoriously don't mix well, the 39-foot tall by 26-foot diameter steel tank had significant corrosion and rough surfaces due to the harsh salt mixture. Doug Simmons, Operations Director, traveled to Germany to help in this rehabilitation effort. "It was a great opportunity to help a new installer apply the OBIC Armor System to give this steel tank new

Installer Spotlight: A Tale of Two Clarifiers for Midwest Infrastructure Coatings

Installer Spotlight: A Tale of Two Clarifiers for Midwest Infrastructure Coatings Midwest Infrastructure Coatings (MIC) has been busy working across Missouri, using OBIC products to restore and protect wastewater clarifiers.  In the towns of Hannibal and Nixa, two critical clarifier projects have been completed, each with its unique challenges but with the same goal - ensuring the long-term integrity of wastewater infrastructure. Hannibal, Missouri - A Clarifier Reborn In Hannibal, a 7,000 square-foot clarifier that had been in service for over 30 years was facing severe corrosion due to hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas.  The concrete had deteriorated so much that the rocks within the launder were exposed.  The team at MIC got to work restoring the structure with the OBIC Armor Multi-Layer System. The project kicked off with a subcontractor sandblasting the surface, followed by the application of OBIC 1000 polyurea to the clarifier walls and the

Installer Spotlight: ART Fortifies Allendale’s Infrastructure With the OBIC Armor System

Installer Spotlight: ART Fortifies Allendale's Infrastructure With the OBIC Armor System In a collaborative effort to ensure long-term durability and efficiency, the Municipality of Allendale, Michigan, along with Moore & Bruggink Engineers, chose the OBIC Armor multi-layer system to protect their new pre-equalization tank from the harmful effects of hydrogen sulfide gases from the start.  This decision was influenced by past experiences with infrastructure failures, which led to increased costs and complications. The 30' wide x 62' long x 21' deep pre-equalization tank, crucial for managing fluctuations in raw wastewater, faced future challenges due to the corrosive nature of hydrogen sulfide.  With a community of 300,000 residents, Ottawa County in West Michigan is the state's fastest-growing county, adding an additional 2,454 residents in the last year alone.  This demand on the wastewater plant is expected to increase significantly.  To address these concerns proactively, the OBIC multi-layer system
