Installer Spotlight: Advanced Lining Delivers Long-term Protection for New Headworks Structure

When the City of Preston, Idaho, needed to protect a major investment in their new headworks structure, they turned to Advanced Lining—an OBIC-certified installer with a service territory of Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah—known for quality workmanship and expertise.

The project involved lining almost 9,000 square feet of concrete surfaces, including channels, a vortex grinder, a grit chamber, a lift station, and five manholes. “This wasn’t a small project by any means,” said Nathan Churan, Advanced Lining’s General Manager. “It was an expansion of their existing setup, and the city was proactive about preventing corrosion before the structures went into service.”

Advanced Lining used the OBIC Armor Multi-Layer System that consists of OBIC 1306 closed-cell foam sandwiched between two layers of OBIC 1000. To ensure optimal results, the team completed extensive surface preparation, sandblasting the entire structure to achieve the ideal CSP profile—finishing in just five days thanks to their efficient process.

One unique aspect of this project was the collaboration with a Level 3 NACE-certified inspector, one of the highest certifications available in the coatings industry. “It was a great learning opportunity and validation of our team’s professionalism and attention to detail,” Churan shared. The inspector’s feedback, along with that from the quality assurance manager at RSCI (the project’s general contractor), emphasized Advanced Lining’s strong focus on safety and quality assurance.

The project, completed in October 2024, took about two and a half weeks. Even though the headworks facility is not yet operational, the city and contractor have already expressed satisfaction—especially with the warranty OBIC provides. “They’ve been very proactive about making sure they maintain warranty standards, and we’ve been happy to support them,” Churan said.

Seth Huggins of Advanced Lining added, “This was a big investment for a small town. Protecting their infrastructure upfront, rather than dealing with corrosion later, was critical. We’re proud to have been part of a project that helps secure the future of Preston’s water treatment system.”

Thanks to Advanced Lining and OBIC’s high-performance protective systems, Preston can look forward to decades of reliable performance—with a headworks facility built to withstand the test of time.
